Galen Gallegos

Galen Gallegos founded Theatrical Ministries because the Spirit of God emboldened him with the explicit conviction that the stage — one of the most powerful ways to move a human heart — belongs to the Gospel.

Soon after graduating from Arizona State University to teach communicative arts and theatre in 1984, Galen helped to originate and was one of the very first disciples in a program called Master’s Commission (now global). It was during this season of his life that the conceptual idea of discipling performing artists to be sent out as ministers (Matthew 28:19-20) was born. Upon receiving his M.Ed. from ASU as a school administrator, he continued working with schools and churches for several decades but soon realized that only a handful of churches and hardly any Christian schools or colleges were doing theatrical presentations reflective of the Gospel.

Galen watched gifted performers, many with a love and passion for God, pour their talents into stories that pointed nowhere in particular and which had little, if any, spiritual significance. It was at this point that the Lord revealed His true desire to impart and manifest His presence not only to the audience, but to the performers as well. So Galen began to write and write and network and produce and write some more. Time passed, and after having worked for years with countless creative artists who also loved the Lord, dozens of biblically based, scripturally centered skits, plays and musicals were created and are still being developed. For when God is glorified and His anointing is present, wonderful and amazing things happen as His will is done.

What began with a handful of scripts, a smattering of willing performers and a few available sanctuaries grew into a ministry devoted to writing, producing and equipping innumerable others to stage biblically grounded theatre. Galen’s heart has always been for the local church, Christian school and college — ordinary communities with little or no professionally experienced performers and no big budget — and proving that God can and will more than equip those with a right heart and a resiliency to stay the course, to powerfully tell these stories for His glory.

Today Galen continues to write, produce, direct and disciple a new generation of performing artists through Master’s Stage — sending them out as ministers of the Gospel wherever God leads.
